Latte is an Italian-origin beverage. In French, it’s called grand creme. But later in English, the term caffe latte is milk and warm steamed espresso shot.  In Northern Europe and Scandinavia, the term Cafe au lait is espresso and milk. 

Let’s go back to the 17th century, lattes like coffee e latte, milch Kaffee, cafe Au lait, and cafe con Leche were traditional ways to start the morning. After the 20th century, the trend of public cafes started in Europe and USA.  In each public cafe, Cafe`au lait was used to serve in most of the countries in Europe and the USA afterward.

Chocolate originates from the 11th – 19th century. The mesoamerican are the creators of chocolate. With the time and improvement of trading, it started to come to Europe, and America. 

What’s the process of chocolate?

The cocoa seed is bitter for which it is fermented into different types of flavors.  After fermentation, the beans are dried, cleaned, and roasted. After that, the producers remove the shell for producing cocoa nibs which are then ground to cocoa mass which is a rough form of chocolate. 

Types of chocolate. 

There are three types of chocolate. 

  • Dark chocolate – is bitter chocolate. It Doesn’t contain any kind of sugar. 
  • Milk chocolate –  is sweet chocolate. It contains milk or condensed milk. 
  • White chocolate – is sweet too. It contains milk, cocoa butter, and sugar.

MOCHA vs LATTE

Being new in the world of coffee you might get confused about what is the difference and similarities in flavors of coffees. They have similar supplements in them. The answer is really simple.

In a latte, you are going to have 2 ounces of espresso, and the rest of it is just steamed milk. After that, you are going to have nice silky foam on top of the latte. It’s a pretty big drink compared to mocha. 

On the other hand for mocha you are going to have all the ingredients like a latte, 2 ounces of espresso, and 10 – 12 ounces of drink but here is the difference when you add chocolate into the beverage.  So you are going to use chocolate syrup first then put the espresso and the milk, mix it well and you will have a nice chocolaty foamy Mocha.

If you are thinking about which is sweeter the answer is really simple. Hot chocolate is sweeter because it contains more chocolate than mocha. There are some fusions of mocha and hot chocolate like mocha hot cocoa. It’s marshmallows 50 – 50 mocha and hot chocolate.
