Maybe most of us are familiar with the name “Cotton Candy” or fairy floss. Pink, light, soft, and swirling high on a cone or stick you might see its market, park, stadium, and all those places where the crowds are high. It’s deeply connected with our childhood also. Whenever we went out and suddenly we saw that pinkish sweet thing which was the most attractive thing in our childhood days. Even still when we see them we get nostalgic. But do you know what this amazing thing is made of? In this article, we’ll discuss how to make cotton candy with a machine? Along with DIY cotton candy making.
What is cotton candy?
Cotton candy is mainly heated liquifying sugar which is spinning centrifugally minutely. This fluffiest cotton candy is made by electrical Machines whether it is a large industrial machine or a small size tabletop.
But all you need to know is the method to make this candy, like the perfect time to heat the machine, fill it out with sugar at the relevant time, and always cool down before switching off.
If you want a small quantity of cotton candy then you can go for Nostalgia Electrics Retro Hard Candy Maker from which you can make candies at home.
If you want a high volume and quantity then you can go for Gold Medal Whirlwind. But if you don’t want to make such a small quantity of candies and even if you don’t want to make high volume and high quantity candy means if you need a medium machine then you can go for Great Northern Vortex.
Three different types of cotton candy-making machines are mainly the same in mechanism but you need to use them as needed.
Steps of Cotton Candy making
First of all, you need to cover yours for protection purposes because it could be risky while making cotton candy without eye protection as it’s a process to make high volume candies. You need to place the bowl top on the machine and clip the net which is hanging on the inner corner of the bowl. You also need a clear babble and place it on the top of the bowl.
Warm-up
Turn on the power button and heat button and turn the knob to the highest heat that it can go on. Run the machine in the highest heat for 2-4 minutes. This time machine can produce some smoke because of the previous spinning. When the machine is warm, you need to turn off the heat button and take the knob to zero but don’t switch off the power button. This machine needs to cool down by itself. you may destroy this machine if you switch off the power button before it cools down.
Spinning
After the machine cools down you can pour sugar floss into the machine. Fill the head with sugar, then spin the head counterclockwise; the sugar will fall into the machine’s head, taking a place for a bit more sugar to be poured in; at this point, top up the sugar. To properly distribute the sugar inside the head, give the machine’s head one more counterclockwise spin.
Heat adjustment
Turn on the heat and power buttons, and adjust the heat knob to the highest setting possible. Reduce the heat to a level where the machine is producing cotton candy at a rate you can keep up with as soon as it starts spinning. We usually say that the less heat you use, the more flavor and color your cotton candy will have. If the temperature is too high, the cotton candy will become dense and heavy. If the heat is turned down too low, no cotton candy will spin out. You’ll have to experiment to determine your machine’s “sweet spot” temperature; we like to operate the Whirlwind at around 70 volts always under 90 volts according to the voltmeter on the front panel.
Ready or not?
To spin the cotton candy, grab some paper cones. You may also wear food-safe gloves to bag the cotton candy, but be careful not to get too near to the machine head since there are little leather floaters on the machine head that you can’t see when the machine is spinning and will whip your hands if you come too close! If the cotton candy is forming a “hurricane” around the machine’s head, the leather floaters have been bent too much. Twist the leather floaters up again the next time the machine is turned off so that they stick out straight or even slightly upward. This will help the consistency and spin direction of your cotton candy. When the machine’s output begins to slow, gradually increase the heat until it resumes production; you should continue to gradually increase the heat each time production slows.
Unless the machine is set to maximum heat again, you will eventually run out of sugar to spin out. Any cotton candy that comes out of the machine at maximum heat should be discarded; it will be scorched, inedible, and most likely white noncolor.
Cooling down method
For cooling purposes, you need to switch on the heat button for approximately 3 minutes. The machine will burn the sugar which is a self-cleaning method of this machine. Switch off all the heat buttons and let the machine run for another 3 minutes.
Cleaning process
Take off the bowl and the clear bubble and rinse them with warm water. Don’t pour water on the machine. It already cleans itself by burning sugar at the end of spinning. You can wipe it with a cloth only.
This cotton candy is so colorful and flavourful and so appealing that we all are crazy about it, young and old alike. Because of its eye-catching sign, we can not resist ourselves. This is something which can cherish our minds within a moment.
